Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most frequently asked questions about our church. If you are still curious, or if there is a specific question you have that we did not address, please reach out to us and we would be happy to answer them.

What is House of Ancient Faith?

House of Ancient Faith is a Lutheran house-church and online congregation that brings the ancient Christian faith into homes, hospitals, and senior communities. We gather around Scripture, liturgical worship, and the Sacraments, primarily online and through traveling pastoral visits.

How does online communion and worship work?

We stream live services where you prepare simple bread and wine (or grape juice where needed) at home. The pastor leads a reverent liturgy, proclaims the Gospel, and speaks the Words of Institution, and we receive Holy Communion together as one scattered-yet-united congregation.

Are you connected to a specific denomination?

We stand in the Lutheran tradition, rooted in Scripture, the ecumenical creeds, and the primary Lutheran Confessions (especially the Augsburg Confession and Luther’s Small Catechism). At the same time, we welcome believers from a variety of church backgrounds who are drawn to this way of worship and life. We are an independent Lutheran church, meaning we operate at our own discretion, not under the larger banner of an organization or synod.

What does "OSB" in your web address mean?

The “OSB” in osbstmichael.org is a short reminder of who we are: Orthodox, Sacramental, Biblical. It also ties to our patron Saint, St. Michael the Archangel. We hold to the historic, orthodox Christian faith; we center our life on the Sacraments; and we root all our teaching and practice in Holy Scripture.

Why St. Michael the Archangel?

We name St. Michael as our patron because Scripture presents him as a sign of God’s protection and the Church’s spiritual battle (for example, in Revelation 12). Our ministry often goes into places of sickness, vulnerability, and spiritual struggle, and our domain name honors that reality: we go in Christ’s name, asking His angels’ protection while trusting fully in His victory.

How do I request a house church or bedside service visit?

You can use our contact/booking form to request a visit, selecting options like “Traveling House Church,” “Hospital & Hospice Worship,” or “Senior Living Worship.” We’ll follow up to confirm details, discuss timing and distance, and make a plan that fits your situation as best we can.

Do you charge for your services?

There is no fixed fee for worship services or pastoral care. We rely on tithes and donations to sustain the ministry and cover travel, technology, and basic needs. When possible, we invite those who receive ministry to support the work as they are able.

How do I become a member?

Start by regularly attending online services and, if possible, connecting with the pastor for a brief conversation. From there, we walk through a simple process of catechesis using Scripture, the creeds, and Luther’s Small Catechism, and then publicly welcome you into membership during a worship service.
